Three Months, Already?!?

I know - it's hard to believe for us too!!!  Little Teagan is already a quarter of a year old!  Crazy!  I will have a very special addition to the blog for our 100th day in the NICU.  Stay tuned - it's coming up soon!

Wait, I'm HOW old?!?
What does a three month old get for their birthday, you might ask?  Well, it's not so different from what most big girls want for their birthday!
Breakfast of Champions

What do they PUT in this gunk?
 A nice meal with family....
Someone to throw up on when you've had a bit too much...
We have a new definition of "hot mess"
Maybe spend a little time recovering at a spa....

OMG look at that cute tushie! (yes, I went there)

Now THIS is the life!!!

So relaxed!
And then to bed all snuggly in a brand new outfit....
AAAANNNNDDD we're out.
This week we are done with the EPO treatments - both hematocrit and retic counts look good and blood oxygen levels keep improving.  Her color is starting to look much healthier too - no more blaming her paleness on Mommy and Daddy's complexions!  She is just over 5 pounds.  Yes, she put on a whole pound in a week.  Which seems like a lot until the nutritionist told me she is in the THIRD percentile for a 38 week-er.  Her head circumference is 32 centimeters.  She is still on Iron and Vitamin D and 26 calorie formula to help pack on pounds, er, um, ounces.  We've gotten her oxygen flow down to a 64th of a liter, which is the lowest pressure available.

Next steps will be working on bottle feeds - moving up to 2 back to back feeds at a time instead of every other feed with a bottle.  We should also be off the nasal canula in the next week or so.  Still at least a couple weeks out from coming home, though.  But we are pretty much ready (as much as we can be) for when she does!

  1. Well technically, she may be 3 months old, but really she has spent the last 3 months gestation out side of the womb, a huge struggle for such a little life to begin with. But I don't think she could have done as well without the love of her mom and dad, and the care of the good people at the Intensive Care Nursery who I am sure are in love with little Teagan and care so much for her by now. The rest of the family and friends have put their good thoughts prayers and wishes into this little special package. I cannot wait to see her, she looks just like her daddy did when he was young, even looks like her aunty Stephanie. We all want to love her, be part of her life and can't wait to do that. I adore her, she is also very mellow just like daddy was, Ian rarely cried or ever fussed he was a wonderful happy content baby, practically perfect in every way! ;D LOL, Seriously, he was so mellow and happy!

  2. Sam, wonderful blog, love the way your write, you have a talent in that area..But please feel more than free to not let this comment be posted, please! Technically 3 months is not a quarter of a year, 4 months is, three months is 1/3 of a year, just thought you should know! FYI! Just noticed that, thought, hey she is not a quarter of a year old! Minor mistake, funny, just FYI, hey I have done much worse in less time! LOL like now! Some times I write and think like a Neanderthal or 5 yr old, which ever!

  3. Awww Sam she's beautiful! And she is looking SO good! Teagan is right about the size and age Nate was when he came home about six weeks ago. I'm so hopeful for you 3 that home will be SOON!

I remember bawling like a crazy person when Nate was coming up on the quarter of a year in the NICU mark, he took it much better than I did. :)

I can't let Nate see this post, he would be so jealous of your nicu. A real bath!? He had sponge baths (although the nurses were awfully pretty so he couldn't complain too much), and all the toys I am still amazed by.

Anyway love seeing an update on your sweet girl! <3

  4. Sam, Well here I go again and lets just hope it's not genetic, because remember your little daughter has 1/4 of her genes from me! Poor thing..Or am I wrong again, is it truly one fourth or am I totally so pathetic or maybe even challenged when it comes to fractions that I am wrong. It dawned on me, yes it is true that 3 months is a quarter of a year a fiscal year, one 4th is 3 months, I don't know what the heck I am thinking about, temporary intermittent insanity? I plead Mercy from the court..OMG!!
