Catching Up!

Well, hello there!

Can you believe it's been THREE MONTHS?  Because I can't!  Where did the time go?  Things have been crazy busy here - as always.

Let's skip crawling - I'm ready to go!
Teagan is officially 9 months old.  Does that sound as crazy to read as it is to write?  9 months since we started this party.  Amazing.  We of course are still adjusting her down so she is actually about 5 & 1/2 months development wise.  She is ALMOST up to 14 pounds!  Huge!  She is also discovering her "voice" and is making all sorts of fun noises, and we are officially rolling over!  Yay!  Next comes sitting - and we're pretty close!

I call this look "Blue Steel"
We hit a little bump in the road in February where she contracted an infection and became severely dehydrated.  We ended up in the new Swedish Issaquah Highlands hospital down the road from where we live.  Let me just say, Evergreen will always be our hospital "home", but the Swedish hospital in Issaquah was wonderful.  We had a bed in the room with Teagan, everyone was helpful and knowledgeable, they have a Starbucks on site (we have a new barista friend that was sorry to see us discharged!)

Experimenting with pizza crust
The result of the hospital visit is that Teagan is now on a feeding, or NG, tube.  This way if she does not eat enough by bottle, we can make sure she is getting the nutrition she needs.  Ian and I fought this for so long, doing everything we could to get Teagan over her bottle aversion.  Let me tell you - I wish we had not fought this as hard as we did.  Teagan not only began putting on weight again and started seeming happier and healthier right away, but after a week or so, that bottle aversion was GONE.  She now will take at least some of her 6 bottles per day, but the pressure is off.  Many thanks to Kim, our awesome speech therapist, and Dr. Paul, our nutritionist for finding a feeding plan that balances the sleep patterns of exhausted parents.
Can't get the tube in if I eat the stuff you need to place it!!!

I LOVE my bunny coat!

One of Teagan's new favorite games is "Pull out the NG Tube", though, and it is still a stressful process re-placing the tube.  Ian, Stephanie and I have gotten pretty good at it though, but it is exhausting.

Also - Teagan is unofficially OFF her oxygen requirement.  Dr. Ong will give us her blessing once Teagan passes a sleep study.

We have added a urologist, Dr. Ebers, because we found that Teagan has renal reflux which she will most likely grow out of, but requires a daily antibiotic.  And we also have added a nephrologist (kidney specialist - I had to ask, too), Dr. Fouser, to Team Teagan because she also has kidney stones.  She has one kidney stone that is 8 millimeters!  That's huge!  Luckily in babies, they typically do not block anything or cause any pain, and dissipate over the first couple years.  We will continue to watch these new items closely.

Grandpa n' me!
First visit to Pike's Place Market
Let's talk about all the stuff you're going to buy me...

But the best news of all of late is that my parents finally got to come visit from Kansas City!  For those of you who may not know, my dad is fighting cancer, and we are so happy that he could come before he starts chemotherapy.  Teagan has a new best bud, to say the least!  She just loved being held by Mimi & Grandpa!  It was also a great chance to get the family together for Teagan's christening.

Grandpa's got the "sleeper hold" down
Next week I'll post another update along with information for Teagan's Team for the upcoming March of Dimes here in Seattle!  Take care, everyone!
